5 Reasons Why Buying A Brand New Stateson Home is the Best Thing to Do

Brand new construction is in high demand these real estate days.  And while one of the biggest cons in buying brand new is price, one of the biggest pros are the peace of mind and flexibility that they offer, which can be incomparable. So, why buy brand new at Stateson Homes in Blacksburg, VA? We have 5 golden reasons that will have you checking off the ‘new construction’ box in your home search.

Have it Your Way

One of the most highly esteemed benefits of owning a brand new home is customization. Imagine having a say in the cabinets, flooring, carpets, light fixtures, etc. With new construction, not only can they be custom tailored to your style, they can be custom tailored to your budget. In older homes, this wouldn’t be the case since you would simply have no option other than to renovate or grow accustom to the décor.

All New and Under Warranty

Another pro to buying new is that the home is far less likely to need repairs, but if and when that does become an issue, there’s no need to fret since the home is under warranty and will cover you for years. Now, if this were a previously owned home, there would be a strong chance to guarantee that you would be responsible for 100% of the damage, leaving you to pay for the repairing.

The Green Factor

These days, contractors know that homeowners are more and more green conscious. It’s one of the biggest trends to blossom since shag carpeting and is one that is heavily considered and incorporated when building new homes. As a result, many new homes offer double- triple-pane windows, energy efficient appliances, energy-conserving, long-lasting LED lighting and more, all features that decrease the homeowner’s costs and carbon footprint.
Safety First
Safety is a concern for any homeowner, whether buying new or old. And while safety is at the top of the list, it can unfortunately be an expensive task in older homes. But, when buying a new home, you save yourself form this worry since these items are brand new and use the latest environmentally friendly components, allowing you and your family to feel safer and not worry about updating.

Pride in Homeownership

A brand new home means that you were the first to own it, to live in it, to make it your own. It gives the homeowner a sense of pride. After all, you’ve been here since day one, had your style incorporated into the home, and made it yours every day since then- all very special and unique to the brand new home buying process.

Continuous Improvement

As I was flying across the country to attend the National Homebuilder Association's annual home show with what felt like a jet full of home building professionals I started wondering what makes Stateson Homes different and how do we stay in front of the industry.  Did the great housing depression awakened an antiquated "good ole boys" industry to enter the 21st century?  Or did it simply eliminate the financially weak homebuilders while many of the survivors return to the same old outdated business practices.

Although our buyers come from near and far, represent a diversity of cultures, and range in age, they all have something in common.  They want nice homes at an affordable price point. They want a nice home to raise a family, a nice home to entertain and enjoy the company of friends, a nice home for the grandchildren to enjoy during their visits, or a nice home to simply relax and recharge.  A "nest" as my wife likes to call it.  So at the end of the day and at all points in the day, we have to remember that we are in the business to sell and build one of life's most precious things, a "Home", a "Nest" at a price that our customers can afford.

So, nineteen months after our first home was delivered and 29 homes under our belt I reflected on how we have grown as a company.  The challenges today are very different than the challenges when we got started.  We have made many improvements.  Our systems have evolved dramatically to make the process easier for the customer to navigate and our team to manage.  Our design center contains a broad assortment of selections, which can all be made from our design center.  Our construction process has become more consistent and stream lined which makes the process easier for all involved.

Along the way we have had challenges and some growing pains but that is to be expected when you grow 400% in one year.  What makes our team different is the mindset.  We look at each challenge or miscue in depth to determine the back ground and what if any adjustments we need to make.  Although we are proud of every home that we build we are never satisfied.  Continuous improvement is something that has become part of our DNA as an organization.  I feel very fortunate to be associated with a team of people that have this mindset.  No business can dictate this mindset, it is something that has to be grown and nurtured.

As we near the midway point of 2014, there are 4 categories in which Stateson Homes continues to focus in order to maintain our position as an industry leader in our area.  It is continuous improvement in these areas that will allow us to deliver a great customer experience:

1. Staffing: Hiring and maintaining a group of highly skilled and motivated individuals that represent the values of Stateson Homes.  There are many stakeholders that have a role in this homebuilding process.  Obviously our customers are a stakeholder but so are our trade partners, lenders, title companies, etc.   All of which need to benefit from our relationship.  As the builder, Stateson Homes has to be the central link to make sure we keep everyone working toward a common goal.  Each Stateson Homes employee plays an essential role in these relationships and when the relationships are in harmony, the customer experience is enhanced.
2. Training: We have a culture that understands the importance of training and education.  Stateson Homes is committed to helping our team develop their skills and continue to become better managers.   We are committed to educating our staff on new products and construction techniques in order to provide our customers with a long term value.
3. Product design:  As lifestyles evolve, so must our product offering.  We have introduced a number of homes over the last 2 years and we have an exciting list of homes on the drawing board.  We spend hours looking at product in other areas and sorting through websites as we provide direction to our architectural team.  If we have product that meets the lifestyle that our customers want and it is designed in a way that allows us to minimize waste and inefficiencies we provide the homes that our customers desire.
4. Location:  Stateson Homes recently opened our newest community, Cambria Crossing in the Town of Christiansburg.  Our goal is to provide homes in various price ranges in various locations throughout the New River Valley.  The New River Valley is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in Virginia and we want to insure that homebuyers can find a quality Stateson Home in the location that fits their needs at a price that works for them.

So, If you are in the market for a new home or know someone that is, you can be confident that Stateson Homes is a company that is focused on the right things and that we strive to be at the top of our industry.  We are in this business for the long haul and we strive to be a role model for any customer centric organization.  Just because a home can be built by anyone with a contractor’s license, I believe there is a great value to place the construction of your home, your “nest” in the hands of a proven organization that has a history of customer satisfaction and has the mindset of Continuous Improvement.  Building a new home should be one of the best experiences in life.  Make sure you chose a builder that agrees and has the ability to make it happen.

Come explore the Huckleberry Trail in the New River Valley!

If you’re anything like me (and for your sake, let’s hope that’s as little as possible), you sometimes need to be reminded that there are cool things to do around you, especially FREE ones that you can do on a moment’s notice.

Has this ever happened to you… You’re sitting around the house one weekend when you realize that you actually have time to do something different, something you choose to do.  Taken aback by your brief freedom from a normally busy and pre-scheduled routine, you become paralyzed.  Even with all the stuff there is to do in the NRV (that’s short for New River Valley for you out-of-towners), sometimes this paralysis is so debilitating that all you can think to do is go to the fridge, make a sandwich, and go watch golf or infomercials on the TV.  Sure, there are obvious possibilities, like going to Claytor Lake or a Virginia Tech football game, but those things take planning and more time than you generally have on short notice.

Well, fear not my infomercial-stuffed friends! Folks you may not even know are working hard, lining up volunteers, soliciting private donations, and working with local and federal governments to redirect your tax money in the form of grants, all for this moment.  All this effort gives you the solution to your dilemma of fleeting freedom – The Huckleberry Trail!

The Huckleberry Trail has a rich history to match that of the New River Valley.  It started as a rail line to transport coal from the Merrimac Mine (now the location of the Coal Mining Heritage Park) to the Cambria Depot in Christiansburg.  When the route started transporting passengers, it got the nickname Huckleberry Crossing, because when the train would stall, passengers would step off and pick the abundant huckleberries along the route.

Today the trail has been transformed, and you can pick your pleasure.  Walk, hike, or pump up those flat bike tires and take them for a spin.   Winding through the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, the paved 5.76-mile “rail-trail” will take you from the Blacksburg Library to the New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg – with an estimated elevation decline of 100 feet!

Click here for a Map of the Huckleberry Trail!

Throughout the trail you will find markers at every half mile on wooden posts and benches, and a new restroom is located at the Coal Miners Park.  Bring your dog (leashed, of course)!  The trail conveniently provides free pet waste bags on several of the trail signs.  There is even a bicycle “fix-it station” – donated by the New River Valley Bicycle Association (NRVBA) – at the library, so that cyclists can make minor repairs and adjustments on the road, rather than carrying tools or walking home.

So print this blog out and pin it on your fridge for the next time you have some time to enjoy but are struggling to get past sandwiches and vacuums.

For more information on the Huckleberry Trail, visit Friends of the Huckleberry Trail at http://huckleberrytrail.org/ and for other fun outdoor things to do, visit Explore New River Valley at http://explorenewrivervalley.com/.

Stateson Homes is proud to call the New River Valley home. We are dedicated to serving the communities in the New River Valley by providing quality homes in various communities and price points.  Currently our community at Brittany Meadows is just a short drive to the Huckleberry Trail entrance at the Blacksburg Library.

In March 2014, we will break ground on new townhomes starting in the $170’s at Cambria Crossing in Christiansburg, just steps from the Huckleberry Trail at the other end.

No matter what your budget, we want your family to benefit from the intense attention to quality and detail that comes standard in all our new homes.  Visit us at www.statesonhomes.com to learn more.
